PTSD

How Can PTSD Start?
Usually it will begin when we experience an overwhelming event which is terrifying or horrific in some way. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can be the result of a number of things, such as.

  • A Personal Accident
  • Witnessing an Accident or Incident.
  • Severe Neglect or Abuse
  • Severe Repeated Violence

PTSD usually begins from a strong visual trauma, which due to the impact and amount of information from the event and the brain is not able to process the information, and then “flashbacks”, images and movies of the event can re-occur with similar intensity of the original event.

In most cases people heal in time from the event and get over the emotional issues attached without the need of professional help. However, in some people the traumatic experiences set off a reaction that can last for many months or years. This is called Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, and in most cases this is when people suffering may require some help.
