Outcomes of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is usually associated with learning and understanding how “we” generate certain feelings and emotions. The techniques learnt in sessions or online can prove to be lifelong and valuable. Once you understand the CBT frameworks and models, most people are able to apply this in many areas of life.

How would you like to feel in control again? The CBT models and processes allow you to do just that. Imagine being able to quickly diffuse those negative feelings which can be so damaging! One of the biggest benefits of CBT is that once you learn the skills, tools, processes and coping techniques, you are prepared and ready for for whatever life throws at you.

If you’ve been suffering from unhelpful or even toxic thoughts and feelings. Positivity can be hard to muster. However, once have learned to apply CBT you’ll also begin to wonder, what else is possible. This is where a greater sense of self comes from.

It’s no magic wand. Like learning anything, practice is a must. But, working with a Therapist 1-2-1 is the fastest way and usually, a person is able to walk away from each session with a greater understanding and control over their thoughts, emotions and feelings. Typically, client’s will work with me for 3-6 sessions minimum.

Usually, if you’re looking for help, then yes. However, bear in mind that CBT like all therapies requires you to work too. If I had a magic wand, I’d use it. But there is no getting away from the fact that work on your side is required.

What is CBT?

Cognitive means mental processes like thinking. Cognitive, refers to everything that goes on in your mind including dreams, memories, thoughts and attention.

Behaviour refers to everything that you do. This includes what you say, how you solve problems, how you act.

Therapy is a word used to describe a systematic approach to combating a problem, illness, or irregular condition.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, or CBT, is growing in popularity as an effective and long lasting solution for many types of psychological problems, including; Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Anger, Bad-habits, Phobias, Relationship Problem and much more. Most client are referrals from GP’s.

What causes these problems to arise?

There can be a number of reasons any psychological problem can occur and at any time. They are sometimes brought on by a significant emotional event or just a string of letdowns, problems, failures, and situations.

There can be times in your life when you feel burdened by feelings of anxiety, panic, depression and the feeling that you are alone, and misunderstood. Well, you’re not alone. I totally understand, and my aim is to help you through it.

Change the way you look at things, and the things you look at will change!

Cognitive therapy allows the growth and expansion of thinking, and after all, thoughts do create feelings. Change your thoughts and allow those wonderful feelings back in.

As CBT gives a new way of understanding ourselves the skills learnt will always be transferable into other areas of your life. By working through a relationship issue, for example, the associated negative thinking patterns that can be present will be resolved and broken down into “bite size” and workable chunks.

Usually, with CBT the results are best realised when booked in sessions of between 6 – 20, ranging from 40 mins to an hour per session. Each session is usually spaced our weekly or fortnightly.

*Results may vary from person to person.
